Canada Day in Norton

There will be lots going on in Norton this year on Canada Day.

The Norton Canada Day Parade will occur on Sunday, July 1at 11:00am. The theme for this year’s parade is the Community Playground. The route will be the same as it has been for the last few years and there will be plaques awarded for the Best Float, Best Rider, and Best Overall Vehicle. After the parade, there will activities in the afternoon at the Municipal Building (201 Route 124). The Norton Fire Department will be hosting a fundraiser BBQ with hotdogs and pop. And there will be a picnic in the Central Bridge Park with activities for the children, a bouncy house, facepainting, and popcorn. Inside the municipal building there will be a Lego contest and a photo contest.

             

The Lego contest has three age categories: ages 3-8; ages 9-12; and ages 13 and older. There is still time to create your own masterpiece (no kits please) and drop it off at the Municipal Building by Thursday, June 28 at 4:00pm.

The photo contest is also open for three age categories: ages 6-11; ages 12-15; and ages 16 and older. There are several categories: still life; still nature; action life; action nature; old photos; and funniest photo. And likewise, please have your entries into the Municipal Building by Thursday, June 28 at 4:00pm.

In the evening everyone is invited to bring the children to the Norton Elementary School playground so they can play on it one more time before the renovations begin. There will be a BBQ fundraiser for the new playground with hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, juice, and water beginning around 8:00pm along with the cake cutting ceremony and a special surprise musical performance by ECMA-nominated folk-rock band Acres & Acres.

And, of course, once darkness settles in, the fireworks will begin. We ask that people please not attempt to get close to the location where the fireworks will be set off. We want this Canada Day to be enjoyable and fun. We do not need anyone getting hurt. The playground will be the prime location for viewing the fireworks this year as they will be moving to a new location behind the Wonderland Child Care, so please bring your lawn chairs and let the children enjoy the playground as we watch the fireworks display.
